Video Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos across the world, or alternatively at your house on your computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to get the greatest mixture of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will be "handed out" on the video screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and players should now pick which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the player has decided on which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that skillful bettors are agile enough to pick the most beneficial ones every instance.
Once the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to increase their wins, in which instance another round is played. There are also variations among individual machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
