Electronic Poker is a beloved game that is able to be wagered on in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your home computer, through a web connection. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the greatest mixture of cards possible in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A five card hand will be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he or she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be dealt. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that discerning bettors are able to choose the most money-making ones every time.

After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that might have been won. Further, some versions of the game give the gambler an opportunity to increase their profits, in which instance another round is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
