Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be gambled on in casinos across the world, or in your house on your PC, using a net account. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the highest assemblage of cards as you can in order to come away with cash. On this account it is much the same as a regular game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A five card hand will then be "distributed" on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and enthusiasts should now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be needed they will be dealt. The game is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are able to choose the most profitable game each instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, some versions of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to double their winnings, in which situation a further game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying aspects to increase playability.
